Julian Alvarez is expected to be on the move this summer, amidst interest from top clubs across Europe. The Argentine World Cup winner could be heading back to the Premier League, where Arsenal and Chelsea are quite keen on his signature.
According to a report from TEAMtalk, the London clubs have received a massive boost in their pursuit of his signature, as he is expected to move back to England if his move to Barcelona doesn’t go through. The Catalan giants’ failure to meet Atletico Madrid’s demands could open the door for a move back to the English top flight.
After making a name for himself at Manchester City, Alvarez made the move to Atletico in the summer of 2024. Despite his exceptional performances for Pep Guardiola’s team, the 26-year-old was never really a regular starter with Erling Haaland ahead of him in the pecking order.
As a result, Alvarez ended up joining Diego Simeone’s team. The South American star has only gone from strength to strength since moving to Madrid. He has established himself as a key figure in their team and has been a standout performer for them.
He is enjoying another impressive campaign with the Spanish giants. The 26-year-old has 23 goal contributions in his 41 outings across competitions. While he remains an integral part of their plans and still has four years left on his deal, Alvarez looks set to part ways with Atletico this summer.
His camp has made it known to interested clubs that the 26-year-old is ready to leave Atletico this summer. He is open to a return to England, where London is seen as his preferred destination. It is one of the reasons why early talks have been held with Arsenal and Chelsea.
Both clubs seek more quality in the final third and would love to have Alavrez in their ranks. They have been in talks with intermediaries, who are working on a potential transfer for the Argentine international. However, throughout those talks, both London clubs have been made aware that his preferred destination remains Barcelona.
If the Catalan giants have the financial strength to get a deal over the line, which could cause in excess of €100 million, the 26-year-old will give them the preference. However, if a move to Barcelona ain’t possible, the London clubs automatically become front-runners for his signature.
