Liverpool agree new contract with Ibrahima Konate

Chelsea, Barcelona and Real Madrid have suffered a blow in their pursuit of Ibrahima Konate, as Liverpool agree a new contract with the French centre-back.

Ibrahima Konate’s future has been a massive talking point throughout the ongoing campaign as his current deal runs out at the end of the season. Despite all their efforts, Liverpool were struggling to tie him down to a new long-term deal.

However, it seems they have made significant progress during the recent international break. According to a report from TEAMtalk, the Reds have agreed a new deal with the French international. They are on the verge of securing his long-term future.

His camp has reached a broad agreement with the Merseyside club. Liverpool had set an internal deadline of Easter to resolve the 26-year-old’s future, and it seems they are set to meet that target.

Liverpool secure Konate’s future

The Reds had already tabled their strongest possible option to the French centre-back at the start of the year. Despite increasing interest from Real Madrid, Barcelona and Chelsea, the Reds had made their stance quite clear.

While there has been a lot of talk about him leaving as a free agent, Liverpool have stood their ground and have finally managed to make a significant breakthrough. Both parties have agreed on the financial package for the new long-term deal, and only the finer contractual details are to be finalised.

The Merseyside club are now increasingly optimistic about securing his long-term future. With Virgil van Dijk in the final phase of his career, a new deal for Konate will be a massive boost for Liverpool’s project as a whole.

With David Alaba and Antonio Rudiger’s deal running out, Real Madrid were keen on a free transfer. Even Barcelona were after him as Hansi Flick sought more quality and depth at the back. Meanwhile, Chelsea were ready to offer him the opportunity to continue in the Premier League.

However, it seems Konate has decided to stay at Liverpool. Barring any last-minute changes, he is expected to put pen to paper on a new deal at Anfield in the near future.
