Charlotte FC eyeing summer move for Raheem Sterling

High-flying MLS club Charlotte FC are angling for a move to bring Raheem Sterling to the United States as Feyenoord’s stance remains unclear.

Raheem Sterling could soon have the opportunity to make another switch in his illustrious career, as a move to MLS could be on the cards. As per Fichajes, Charlotte FC in the United States are interested in signing the former Liverpool, Manchester City and Chelsea star, as his current club Feyenoord’s stance on a new contract remains unclear.

Sterling’s career has fallen off a cliff over the last few years, owing to his status at Chelsea as well as a dismal loan spell at Arsenal. The English winger had an illustrious career in the Premier League, featuring heavily for Liverpool and Manchester City before making the switch to the Blues.

The veteran attacker was famously part of the ‘bomb squad’ at Chelsea, which essentially represented a group of high-profile players being frozen out of the first team. The Blues managed to mutually terminate his high-paying contract back in January, allowing Sterling to join Feyenoord.

Performances in the Netherlands have not been up to scratch, as the Eredivisie side are still mulling over the idea of handing him a new deal. Sterling’s representatives are seemingly looking at options to make a change if a good offer arrives, and high-flying MLS club Charlotte FC are now in the mix.

Charlotte FC want to bring Sterling to MLS, which could be a solid statement of intent in the evolution of the club. The United States has often been an attractive destination for players at the twilight of their careers, and that could be the case for Sterling, who was once valued at €160 million in the market.

Will Charlotte FC be a good choice for Sterling?

Feyenoord are yet to close the door on the winger, who has one assist in six appearances for the club. His performances have not been convincing for the Eredivisie side, which could see them turn down the idea of handing Sterling a new deal in the summer when his current agreement expires.

From playing high-level football for Liverpool, Manchester City, Chelsea and even Arsenal, Sterling could ponder a move to MLS. Saudi clubs were keen back in January and could still make an offer, while other clubs at a competitive level could also consider the player. However, a move to Charlotte FC might be something for the beleaguered winger to think about ahead of the summer.
