Aston Villa initiate move to sign Harry Wilson

Aston Villa have reportedly begun exploratory talks to sign Harry Wilson on a Bosman deal as his time at Fulham is drawing to a close.

Harry Wilson could set about a scramble in the market for his signature as he now looks closer than ever to leave Fulham. The attacker has had an outstanding season, and as per Football Insider, Aston Villa have begun exploratory talks in an attempt to steal the march over their rivals in the race for the 29-year-old winger.

Fulham are pushing towards Europe following their stellar 1-0 win over Aston Villa at the weekend. While they are in a good vein of form, there’s a possibility they make it to one of the continental tournaments, but may have to do so without their star attacker, Harry Wilson, who is coming to the end of his four-year deal that he signed when arriving from Liverpool in a £12 million move back in 2021.

Wilson has had a stellar campaign in his final year at the club, scoring 10 goals and providing a cool six assists. Fulham had been making big efforts to keep hold of the Welshman and had made a series of offers, including one very recently for the attacker to consider.

As per the report, Wilson is leaning towards leaving the club in the summer, which has already attracted many teams towards making a move. Some of those, like Leeds United, are expected to actively chase the Welshman, while Tottenham are also keen, although any move from the north Londoners will depend on their ability to avoid relegation.

Aston Villa are the latest to enter the race, as Unai Emery will be looking for bargain signings in the window to avoid breaching PSR. Someone with the calibre and ability of Wilson would be ideal, as the Fulham star could potentially replace Leon Bailey in the summer. The Birmingham giants have reportedly begun exploratory talks for the attacker, as a Bosman signing would be sensational on multiple fronts.

Aston Villa the Favourites for Harry Wilson?

Aston Villa could be a strong contender to sign Wilson, especially as they are now one of the favourites to play Champions League football next season. With the club doing well under Emery, this could be a chance for Wilson to test himself at a different level.

However, it has been understood that Wilson’s reluctance to commit himself to Fulham has been related to Marco Silva’s future, with the Portuguese coach yet to agree on fresh terms. The Cottagers are optimistic of a renewal, and should that happen in the coming period, then there could be a twist in the decision-making of Wilson, who might stay put — especially if the team qualifies for a European competition.
