Barcelona loanee Ansu Fati seeks Monaco stay

Ansu Fati (23), on loan at AS Monaco from Barcelona, is looking to extend his stay at the Principality club, according to his father.

Fati arrived at Monaco last summer, looking to get his career back on track. His season has certainly been imperfect, with peaks and troughs, and injury issues, too. But when he has played, he has often proved a difference-maker.

In 22 games in Ligue 1 this season, the Spaniard has nine goals. Only Folarin Balogun has more for the Principality club. When Fati joined Les Monégasques, a buy option was included in the deal. That option is thought to be worth €11m.

Monaco may be inclined to trigger it. Fati himself is inclined to stay, too. “We’d like Fati to stay at Monaco. He’s happy there,” his father, Bori said, via Fabrizio Romano. He added, “He’s still under contract at Barca until June 2028, so we will see.”

Currently, Barcelona are paying half of the forward’s €500,000 per month salary. There will have to be negotiations with potentially a lower net figure, but with bonuses included in it, L’Équipe understands.
