Roma are preparing a strong push for striker Joshua Zirkzee in the January transfer window, but their hopes of bringing the Dutch forward back to Serie A are being complicated by his agent, who is actively advocating for a move to England.
The Giallorossi’s emergency need for a forward has intensified following the injury to Artem Dovbyk, making the pursuit of Zirkzee, who is currently seeking an exit from his current club where he has seen limited playing time, a top priority.
While Zirkzee himself is reported to prefer a return to Italy and a chance to compete for higher ambitions with Roma, the club faces stern competition from the Premier League.
So far, the only English side to show concrete interest is West Ham United, as per Gazzetta dello Sport. The Dutch international would prefer to fight for a European spot in Rome rather than join the Hammers, who are languishing near the bottom of the table.
Crucially, the obstacle lies with his representative, agent Kia Joorabchian, who would prefer to see his client remain in the Premier League for “economic reasons.” This means that despite Zirkzee’s personal preference for Roma, West Ham’s capacity to offer significant wages and fees, driven by the agent’s financial interests, poses the biggest threat to the Serie A club’s transfer hopes.
