Everton fail with enquiry for Harry Wilson deal

Everton approached Fulham to discuss a move for 28-year-old Welsh international Harry Wilson on the final day of the winter transfer window.

According to an update by Sami Mokbel on BBC Sport, Harry Wilson is the subject of interest of Everton. The Toffees are keen on reinforcing their offensive unit by signing a wide attacker in the final hours of the winter transfer window. So, the 28-year-old Fulham winger has emerged as a target for the Merseyside outfit.

Everton approached Fulham to discuss a last-gasp deal for the Wrexham native. However, the Cottagers have “instantly” rebuffed their fellow Premier League club, and a late move away from the West London club is not on the cards for Wilson.

How has Harry Wilson fared at Fulham so far?

Harry Wilson has endured a topsy-turvy ride since joining Fulham from Liverpool in a deal worth £12 million in July 2021. While the 28-year-old was not an undisputed first-choice starter for the West London club in his first four seasons at Craven Cottage, he has transformed his reputation in the ongoing campaign.

The Welsh international has scored nine goals and provided five assists in 27 appearances across all competitions this term. However, Wilson’s long-term future at the West London club is uncertain, as he has entered the final six months of his contract. The situation has piqued the attention of several clubs, with Everton among the prospective suitors vying for his signature in the winter transfer window.

Move across the Premier League on the cards?

Everton’s interest in Harry Wilson makes sense. While David Moyes has several top-notch wide attackers in his squad, he can do with more quality in the final third, as it is unclear if Jack Grealish will remain at the Hill Dickinson Stadium after his loan deal expires after the 2025/26 season.

Similarly, it is unclear if Everton will trigger the purchase option in Tyrique George’s loan deal, and the 19-year-old Chelsea wonderkid may return to the West London club this summer. So, the Toffees must keep their options open, making Wilson a viable target. However, the latest report has revealed that they have attempted to sign the Fulham winger in the winter transfer window.

Everton approached Fulham with an enquiry over a possible move for Wilson in the winter transfer window. However, the Cottagers have “instantly” rejected the Merseyside club, and a January exit is not on the cards for the 28-year-old Welsh international. So, Everton must look elsewhere for a new winger in the coming hours.
