Moving forward, Manchester City want to add more quality to their backline, as Pep Guardiola looks to take them back to the top of English as well as European football. The Spanish manager seeks more quality at right-back in particular, and according to a report from Fichajes, City have their eyes set on Wesley Franca.
They consider the 22-year-old Brazilian full-back an ideal fit for Guardiola’s system and their project. As a result, they are ready to knock on AS Roma’s door. City are ready to fork out €50 million to sign the youngster ahead of next season.
Wesley came up the ranks at Flamengo. He got promoted to their first team at the start of 2023 and had two beautiful seasons with their first team before joining Roma last summer. He has only gone from strength to strength since joining the Italian giants.
The 22-year-old has been involved in a total of 29 matches and has even contributed towards four goals. While he prefers playing as a right-back, he is equally effective on both sides and can feature as a wing-back when needed.
His impressive performances for Roma, massive potential, and versatility have placed him on City’s radar. The Manchester-based giants haven’t been able to replace Kyle Walker yet. Since Rico Lewis has been inconsistent, they want to bring in someone who can compete with Matheus Nunes for a place in the XI.
City consider Wesley an ideal fit for their project, and they believe he could easily slot into Guardiola’s plans. They are quite confident about him becoming one of the best in his position. As a result, they are ready to invest around €50 million to get him out of Roma.
The Spanish manager wants a full-back who can contribute on both ends of the pitch, and Wesley certainly can. With his contract running until 2030, Roma are in complete control of his future, and they do not intend to negotiate his departure. However, a massive financial offer will certainly tempt them, and City do have a habit of flexing their financial muscles to overcome similar situations.
