Sky Germany reports that RB Leipzig are continuing to work on the signing of Borussia Mönchengladbach midfielder Rocco Reitz.
Following the retirement of Kevin Kampl, Leipzig have been looking for a replacement for the Slovenian in midfield.
Gladbach captain Reitz is said to be their ideal replacement and is currently in negotiations with the midfielder over a move in the summer.
However, the 23-year-old has a release clause worth €25-28m and Leipzig do not want to pay that and will try to negotiate to pay a lower fee. Ole Werner’s side does face competition from Premier League side Brighton, while Reitz is not the only midfielder that is being considered at the Red Bull Arena.
Celtic’s Arne Engels, former Nürnberg midfielder Caspar Jander of Southampton and Hertha Berlin midfielder Kennet Eichhorn are also under consideration.
Granted, Gladbach are a long way off from offering European football, which is something Leipzig can offer. However, considering Reitz has been a club member at Borussia Park since he was born, has came through the academy and is now captain, it would be a hell of a way to ruin your legacy by moving to the most hated team in Germany.
