Maxi Araujo’s impressive performances for Sporting CP have resulted in a lot of interest from England. Quite a few top clubs are interested in his services, and according to a report from SportWitness, Tottenham and Chelsea are scouting him ahead of a potential transfer and have already established contact as they look to bring him to London.
Araujo hasn’t looked back since joining Sporting from Toluca in the summer of 2024. Not only has he established himself as one of the mainstays at the Portuguese club, but he has also managed to attract a lot of interest from clubs across Europe.
In the ongoing campaign, the left-back has been involved in 35 matches, and he has contributed towards 10 goals. The 26-year-old is capable enough to take up any role on the left flank, and he can even feature in the centre of the park when needed.
While he still has over three years left on his deal and is protected by a massive €80 million release clause, there are clubs that want to prise him away. Meanwhile, Sporting are working on a new deal to secure his long-term future, as per reports.
But in reality, they haven’t held any talks with the South American defender. As a result, clubs in England do have a chance of luring him away this summer. Chelsea and Tottenham, who have been scouting him of late, have already taken a massive step towards signing him.
They have established initial contact as they look to strike a deal. While there are other English clubs in the mix, both London clubs seem to be leading the race. While it remains to be seen if they come forward with an offer, they do seem quite keen on his services.
His impressive performances in the Champions League and his versatility are major reasons why both the Blues and Spurs are after him. Since Chelsea already have Marc Cucurella, Jorrel Hato and Caleb Wiley in their ranks, the North London club might be a better option for Araujo, unless Liam Rosenior’s team end up offloading someone.
While Tottenham also have Destiny Udogie and Djed Spence, Araujo could have a realistic chance of becoming their new preferred choice at left-back.
