Liverpool lead Newcastle United in Kees Smit race

Kees Smit has been linked with a move away from AZ Alkmaar ahead of the summer transfer window, with Premier League clubs keen on signing him.

Kees Smit has done quite well in the Netherlands, and he has attracted the attention of clubs like Liverpool, Arsenal and Newcastle United. There is no doubt that the youngster is a promising young player with a bright future, and he has already established himself as a key player for his club.

The player has recorded 12 goal contributions in all competitions this season. He will only improve with coaching and experience. He has all the attributes to develop into a future star. It is no surprise that clubs like Newcastle United are interested in him.

However, Pete O’Rourke has claimed on Football Insider that the Dutch midfield prospect is more likely to join a club like Liverpool or Arsenal.

“I think it’ll be difficult for Newcastle to try and land a player like Smit in the summer. Obviously, he’s a player that has attracted interest from a number of top clubs across Europe with the form that he’s shown at AZ this season.

“Real Madrid, Barcelona, Liverpool and Arsenal are all being mentioned as potential destinations for Smit. Newcastle obviously, if they’re not able to offer Champions League football to potential transfer targets like Smit, it will harm their chances of signing him.”

Kees Smit could improve both teams

Liverpool and Arsenal could use more quality in the central midfield, and the Dutch wonderkid could be ideal for them. Smit has the technical attributes for English football, and he deserves a big move.

The two clubs have done well to groom young players in the past, and they could help him fulfil his potential. It will be interesting to see if either of the two clubs follows up on their interest with an official proposal in the coming months.

Arsenal and Liverpool have the resources to get the deal across the line, and convincing the young midfielder will not be difficult. Newcastle United will find it difficult to tempt him, especially with elite clubs in the race. It remains to be seen what the player decides.
