Crystal Palace set to sign Harris Afzal

Crystal Palace are closing in on the signing of highly rated Scottish teenage defender Harris Afzal, but faces competition for his signature.

According to Team Talk, Crystal Palace have reportedly found an agreement with Scottish side Queen’s Park for highly talented 16-year-old Scottish defensive prodigy Harris Afzal. The left-back, who is already likened to Liverpool great Andy Robertson, could be headed down south to England, where Southampton are also thought to be very close to signing him.

Scottish side Queen’s Park of Scotland, has been in the news about a certain teenager. The said player is Harris Afzal, a highly rated left-back developing well within the club’s system, as he is now attracting big interest from the Premier League.

Scottish giants Celtic and Rangers are also interested, but it appears the highly talented 16-year-old Scottish defensive prodigy is headed to the south of Britain to one of the interested English clubs. The teenager is already likened to Liverpool great Andy Robertson, who also happened to come through at Queen’s Park before making his move to a bigger club.

However, in Afzal’s case, he is now expected to move down to England, where Crystal Palace and Southampton have reportedly agreed a £40,000 package with Queen’s Park for the signing of the teenage defender. The left-back is yet to make his final choice, but it could be the case that Palace are ahead in the race.

Afzal has already made strides in his development that saw him named on the bench for Queen’s Park’s 1-1 draw with St Johnstone last week. However, he is now widely expected to leave the club and continue his development at one of the interested English sides.

Crystal Palace to sign Harris Afzal?

Palace does face competition from a team like Southampton, which has a reputation for developing talented youngsters. The Saints also handed Afzal a trial and then extended that period as a show of faith, as they may have a broad understanding that the player may want to join. However, the prospect of joining a Premier League team in Palace, who have also shown enough capabilities in nurturing young talents, may turn the tide in their favour.

Afzal will be shown a pathway towards the Palace first team, as the Londoners look like a team destined to stay in the top flight for years to come, unlike Southampton. The entry of Palace into the race may have shifted the odds about the teenager’s choices. While Afzal is yet to decide on his next club, at the moment, the Eagles may have the upper hand.
