Frank Lampard wants Coventry City stay amid Crystal Palace links

Frank Lampard reportedly remains committed to Coventry City, with the EFL Championship table-toppers confident of retaining his services amid his links with Crystal Palace.

According to a report by Football Insider, Frank Lampard is the subject of interest from Crystal Palace. The Eagles are scouring the managerial market for a young coach who can become a long-term solution at the helm as they prepare for Oliver Glasner’s impending departure from Selhurst Park. However, the 47-year-old former Chelsea manager remains committed to Coventry City.

How has Frank Lampard performed in his managerial career?

Frank Lampard has revived his and Coventry City’s fortunes since taking over from Mark Robins nearly two years ago. The 47-year-old was one of the greatest midfielders of his generation, winning every major honour with Chelsea while being among the most prolific midfielders of all time. He entered the managerial sphere in 2018, enjoying a solid stint with Derby County before returning to Chelsea in 2019.

While Lampard enjoyed some promising moments during his time as Chelsea’s head coach, his stint ended after only 18 months. Another underwhelming spell followed, and he could not make his mark at Everton. However, the English tactician has landed on his feet since joining Coventry City, with the Sky Blues closing in on winning the 2024/25 EFL Championship title.

The Sky Blues have stabilised after a slight wobble, and they are 12 points ahead of second-placed Ipswich Town heading into this week’s round of fixtures in the EFL Championship. Meanwhile, Lampard’s exceptional impact at Coventry City has piqued the attention of several clubs, with Crystal Palace among the prospective suitors vying for his signature.

London calling again?

Crystal Palace’s interest in Frank Lampard makes sense. The Eagles are planning for life after Oliver Glasner, as the Austrian tactician has announced that he will depart from Selhurst Park after the 2025/26 season. So, Crystal Palace must identify the ideal candidate to replace the 51-year-old former Eintracht Frankfurt boss, and they have set their sights on Lampard.

However, a deal for the former Chelsea boss will not materialise, due to the 47-year-old English tactician’s commitment to his project at Coventry City. Additionally, recent reports have claimed that the Sky Blues are ready to go all out to keep the former Chelsea manager for the long haul.

That has dealt a blow to Crystal Palace’s prospects, and they must look elsewhere for a new head coach. Interestingly, recent reports have suggested that Thomas Frank is the front-runner to become Glasner’s replacement at Selhurst Park. So, Lampard’s decision may not hurt much.
