Newcastle United considering €30 million move for Ivan Fresneda

Eddie Howe’s Newcastle United could end up making a €30 million offer for Sporting CP full-back Ivan Fresneda this summer.

Ivan Fresneda has been in fine form throughout the ongoing campaign. His performances in the UEFA Champions League, in particular, have impressed scouts from some of the biggest clubs, and there could be a bidding war for him in the summer.

According to A Bola via Sport Witness, Newcastle United are one of the clubs that are keen on his signature. The Tyneside outfit have been scouting him for weeks, and they seem set to make an offer in the near future. The Magpies are considering a move in the region of €30 million plus add-ons.

Rui Borges’s decision to switch to a 4-2-3-1 has given Ivan Fresneda a clear picture of his role, and it has brought the best out of him. While he has done well since joining the Portuguese outfit from Real Valladolid in a deal worth €9 million, the 21-year-old has taken his game to the next level in the ongoing campaign.

The Spaniard has four goal contributions in his 39 outings, and his performance against Bodø/Glimt in the UEFA Champions League has stood out. He covered 17 kilometres across 120 minutes in the 5-0 win, a perfect audition for Premier League clubs, who often look for intensity in such roles.

Newcastle United want to sign Fresneda this summer

While Ivan Fresneda’s contract runs until 2028, and he is protected by a €80 million release clause, Sporting are willing to negotiate a lower fee. It is a massive boost for Newcastle United, who, after scouting him, have decided to step up their pursuit.

With Kieran Trippier leaving the Tyneside club after the end of the season, Fresneda will be the perfect replacement. The Magpies are considering a move worth around €30 million, plus variables. While it is way lower than the release clause, Sporting are open to offers.

However, Sporting CP will certainly look to make a significant profit, and with other English clubs also in the picture, the Primeira Liga champions will be hoping for a bidding war, as it will drive up the final price.
