Nottingham Forest sound out departing Brest Sporting Director Grégory Lorenzi

Grégory Lorenzi has decided to end his 10-year tenure as Brest Sporting Director, according to Ouest-France. The 42-year-old has earned a reputation as one of Ligue 1’s most competent executives at board level. Lorenzi has led Stade Brestois 29 from Ligue 2 to the heights of the Champions League on, most of the time, a shoestring budget.

Brest will feature for the eighth season in a row in Ligue 1 next season, and Lorenzi has played an instrumental part in the Brittany club’s stability in France’s elite. However, Ouest-France understands that operating with limited funds might have taken its toll on Lorenzi, who was also annoyed by the criticism he received from head coach Eric Roy regarding the club’s transfer activity last summer.

Lorenzi will certainly be a man in demand. Ligue 1 rivals OGC Nice and Marseille are reportedly interested in his services, and so is Ligue 2 club Saint-Etienne. An experience abroad could appeal to Lorenzi, and such an opportunity may present itself given that Nottingham Forest have sounded him out. The Tricky Trees would be in the market for a Sporting Director amid uncertainty around Edu Gaspar’s role as Global Head of Football in the portfolio of clubs owned by Evangelos Marinakis.
