Chelsea deal to sign Monaco’s Lamine Camara falls through

Lamine Camara’s move from AS Monaco to Chelsea has fallen through at the final hour, as per a report from The Athletic.

Camara had looked all set for a move to Chelsea and a medical was scheduled. That move was given the green light late in the night after Folarin Balogun’s proposed move to Everton fell through, reportedly due to the USMNT international failing his medical. However, that move could now be back on, albeit on different terms.

In the meantime, Chelsea had agreed a move for Camara. A sale was necessary for Monaco before the closure of the window. With Balogun set to stay, the Senegal international’s move was sanctioned but now revoked. Monaco have decided to retain the midfielder. It means that a deal for Balogun to move to Merseyside could be back on.

The difficulty for Monaco was their inability to sign a replacement, with the window in France having already closed early in the evening. Erik Lira was the ready-made replacement.
