According to a report by Record, as relayed by Sport Witness, Zeno Debast is the subject of interest from Liverpool. The Reds are keen on reinforcing their defensive unit by signing a centre-back in one of the next two transfer windows. So, the 21-year-old Sporting CP defender has emerged as a target for the Merseyside outfit.
While Marc Guehi remains Liverpool’s top target to bolster the central defensive unit, they face stiff competition for his signature. So, the Premier League champions have identified the Sporting CP defender as an alternative to the Crystal Palace captain. Meanwhile, Anderlecht will receive 15 per cent of the profit from Debast’s sale, and they are keeping an eye on the situation.
Zeno Debast has established himself as one of the most promising young defenders in the world in the last few years. The Halle native spent his formative years in Belgium and graduated from the youth division at RSC Anderlecht. However, the 21-year-old has seen his stock skyrocket after joining Sporting CP from Anderlecht in a deal worth €21 million, including add-ons, in July 2024.
The 22-cap Belgian international has made over 50 appearances thus far for Sporting CP while chipping in with two goals and four assists. Meanwhile, Debast’s progress has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several high-profile clubs. Liverpool will be among the prospective suitors vying for his signature next year.
Zeno Debast has been on Liverpool’s radar for a long time. The continued interest makes sense, as they are in a spot of bother over Ibrahima Konate’s long-term future. The French international has entered the final 12 months of his contract, and the two parties are yet to find common ground on a new deal.
Additionally, Virgil van Dijk is on the wrong side of 30 and approaching the twilight of his career. So, Liverpool must dip into the market for a centre-back, with Marc Guehi remaining a top target. However, Guehi also features on the wishlist of several other European bigwigs, and he is keen on joining Real Madrid.
Debast is thus a viable alternative to Guehi, although Liverpool may face stiff competition from other Premier League clubs for his signature. Meanwhile, Anderlecht will be liable to receive 15 per cent of the profit from the 22-cap Belgian international. So, it will be interesting to see what the future holds for the 21-year-old Sporting CP defender.
