According to a report by Graeme Bailey on TBR Football, Ivan Fresneda is a player that Manchester City are considering as a top alternative to key target Valentino Livramento. The latter is favoured by Pep Guardiola, but a deal could be unlikely in future windows, as the Sporting CP man could be the answer to Manchester City’s issues at right-back.
Ivan Fresenda was high on the list of a few big Premier League sides a few years back, especially Arsenal. The Spanish full-back prospect was indeed also courted by Real Madrid and Manchester City alongside the Gunners, but he eventually ended up joining Sporting CP as their replacement for Pedro Porro in an £8 million deal.
Since arriving in Portugal, Fresneda has become a key part of the Sporting CP side, impressing with his performances at right-back. However, he could soon see links to the Premier League being revived, as Manchester City are now eager to explore a future move for the Spanish star.
Sporting CP are expected to make a huge profit on their investment in the defender, having added a £70 million release clause in his contract, which runs until 2028. Manchester City are the team considering the idea of exploring a future move for Ivan Fresneda, as they are eager to bring in a new right back soon.
Sporting director Hugo Viana has been looking at the £70 million-rated Spaniard since the turn of the year, and could open talks with Sporting CP over a potential move. The prospects of a January transfer window would mean Manchester City may have to pay over the odds to bring him, although the ideal time to consider a transfer would be next summer.
Tino Livramento is Pep Guardiola’s key target at right-back as Manchester City were prepared to ramp up their efforts to land the Newcastle United star. However, the Magpies are showing no signs of letting the key defender depart anytime soon, and are instead confident of agreeing on a new deal.
Ivan Fresneda is seen as the best alternative possible for Livramento, although for now, Manchester City might not angle for a move in January. As things stand, Abdukodir Khusanov is seen as the main right-back option in the team, followed by the likes of Rico Lewis or Matheus Nunes, meaning the club have plenty of options in the position to see out the season.
