According to Fichajes, Mike Maignan may decide against renewing his deal with AC Milan as he looks poised to leave on a free transfer next summer. The sought-after keeper has plenty of suitors across the continent and could seek a new challenge at a higher level in an attempt to further his career.
Mike Maignan’s long-term future is a big concern for AC Milan, who were close to selling him last summer. The keeper, in a recent game against Roma, proved his worth as one of the best stoppers on the continent with a fantastic penalty save off a Paulo Dybala effort, which has reignited talks of his future at the San Siro.
The Frenchman is well into the final year of his deal at the San Siro, with Chelsea coming extremely close to signing him earlier in the summer window. The deal could not be agreed as the two clubs were a bit apart in their respective valuations, but the Blues retain an interest in signing him on a Bosman deal next summer.
Maignan now seems poised to leave AC Milan in the summer on a Bosman deal to explore a new challenge elsewhere. There were reports earlier claiming that the Rossoneri could keep him if they could show him an ambitious pathway, and despite being in the mix for the Serie A title, their chances of retaining the 30-year-old Serie A star are fading away.
Milan are still making an effort to keep hold of the player, but the widespread interest from some of the biggest clubs on the continent could make life difficult for them. For instance, Juventus are interested and could provide a different route within Italy to keep hold of the keeper in Serie A, although Chelsea are seen as the current favourites to land him.
Chelsea are the front-runners for Maignan, as they have maintained an interest in the France international since last summer. While their current stopper, Robert Sanchez, has shown plenty of promise with some improved performances, the chances of the Blues replacing the Spaniard are now high, with Maignan their priority target.
Bayern Munich are also interested, and once it becomes clearer that Maignan will leave Milan, more clubs will come into the mix. For now, Chelsea are the front-runners for the 30-year-old Serie A star, given they have already held talks with his camp, and could get a preference next summer to sign him on a free transfer.
