Jamaal Lascelles set to join Leicester City, medical scheduled

Championship outfit Leicester City have struck a deal to sign Newcastle United defensive mainstay Jamaal Lascelles.

According to a report from Sky Sports, Leicester City have won the race to sign Jamaal Lascelles. They have an agreement in place with Newcastle United for the veteran centre-back. The player has been given the green light to discuss personal terms and undergo a medical at the Championship outfit.

After making a name for himself at Nottingham Forest, Lascelles joined the Magpies in the summer of 2014. He has only gone from strength to strength over the years. In his 11-year-long stint at the club, he has been involved in over 250 matches.

While the 32-year-old is the skipper of the club, he has struggled with injuries in recent seasons. He missed the entire 2024/25 season because of a ligament tear. Lascelles has recovered from the knee injury, but things haven’t worked out for him as a muscle injury has kept him on the sidelines for the majority of the first half.

Lascelles to join Leicester City

With his contract running out at the end of the season, Lascelles doesn’t seem to have a future at the club. As a result, the Magpies are ready to sanction his departure in the ongoing window. Leicester City emerged as a potential destination, as they were looking to add more quality to their backline.

They want to bring in an experienced campaigner who can become one of the leaders of their team. Lascelles certainly fits the bill, and he could help the club once again push for a Premier League promotion. Despite his recent injury struggles, the Foxes have decided to bet on him.

While a number of Championship clubs were after his signature, Leicester seems to have won the race barring any last-minute hijack. They have agreed a deal with Newcastle, who have given the green light to the player to undergo a medical at his new club. He is also free to negotiate personal terms with the Championship outfit. Given how things stand, Lascelles’ 11-year-long stint at the Tyneside club will soon come to an end.
