According to Fichajes, Tottenham are seemingly open to addressing their defensive issues by signing a new centre-back before the winter transfer deadline. With the finishing line not too far away, the north Londoners have reportedly offered €35 million to tempt Barcelona into selling Ronald Araujo.
Tottenham have had their share of injury issues as well as a lack of quality backups this season. Once again, on Sunday, as they drew to Manchester City, they had the likes of Micky van de Ven, Kevin Danso and Djed Spence missing from action alongside Ben Davies, while Cristian Romero went off with a problem at halftime.
There could be a real need for a new defender before the winter transfer deadline, and Tottenham are looking for a new centre-back. There have been links to Chelsea outcast Axel Disasi, and now they are reportedly interested in signing Uruguayan internatioanl Ronald Araujo.
Araujo has been on the radars of multiple Premier League sides, but none have come forward with an offer, until Tottenham did, as per the report. Spurs have reportedly tabled a €35 million offer, which breaks down into €30 million in fixed fees and the rest €5 million in add-ons.
The North Londoners are aiming to bring the 26-year-old Barcelona defender to he club as a last-ditch attempt to shore up their backline. Thomas Frank would certainly welcome such a signing given the lack of defenders as well as the need to break into the top four or five at the end of the season.
Barcelona are divided by their thoughts about Araujo, as they may look at the finances and think about a sale. However, on the sporting side of things, losing a quality player like Araujo at this stage of the season could potentially bring serious repercussions if they were to suffer defensive injuries.
Hence, there is a decision to be made by Barcelona, with the report also stating that the offer may suit their asking rate. Given their financial struggles of late, a cash injection from the sale of the 26-year-old Barcelona defender might be the way forward, as they might consider selling.
