There had been creeping doubts surrounding Pierre Sage’s future. Last Tuesday, he said that the “idea was to stay” at RC Lens, having led the club to a second-place finish in Ligue 1. However, after he led the club to glory on Friday night, Sage said that there were “lots of contacts” with other clubs but that he “will try to honour” his contract.
Those comments saw doubt about his continuation at the Stade Bollaert increase, despite the opportunity for the Frenchman to manage in the UEFA Champions League for the first time next season. It was reported by L’Équipe that Crystal Palace were one of the sides interested in bringing in Sage. Crystal Palace are in the market for a replacement for Oliver Glasner, who has already confirmed his departure from Selhurst Park.
Speaking on Téléfoot on Sunday, Sage confirmed that it was a dream to manage in the Premier League. But it won’t happen just yet. Asked directly if he would be Lens manager next season, the Frenchman responded in the affirmative.
