Leeds United have agreed a deal to bolster their defensive options with the signing of Leicester City’s James Justin in a deal worth £10 million. The versatile full-back is set to join Daniel Farke’s squad as the Whites continue to strengthen ahead of their Premier League survival campaign.
Leeds United were given a harsh reality check in their second league outing of the season, suffering a heavy 5-0 defeat at Arsenal. The Gunners exposed the Whites’ weaknesses, particularly at set pieces, while the visitors also struggled to cope with Arsenal’s relentless pressing game.
Although defeats against top opposition are not likely to define Leeds United’s season, the result underlined the need for reinforcements. In response, the club have moved quickly to secure Justin, aiming to add both quality and depth to their backline.
According to journalist Ben Jacobs, Leeds have agreed a package worth £8 million plus £2 million in add-ons with Leicester City for the 27-year-old defender. Normally, a player of Justin’s calibre would command a higher fee, but with his contract expiring next summer, Leeds United have managed to negotiate a cut-price deal.
“Leeds have agreed a £8m+£2m package with Leicester City for James Justin. Move now being formalised,” Jacobs confirmed on X.
Jmaes Justin is a one-cap England international who has impressed with his adaptability across the backline. Comfortable at both right-back and left-back, he will provide direct competition for Jayden Bogle on the right and Gabriel Gudmundsson on the left, giving Farke more tactical flexibility.
His energy, defensive discipline, and ability to support attacks make him a useful addition to a Leeds side that has struggled with consistency in wide defensive areas. Having spent five years with Leicester, Justin also brings valuable Premier League experience to Elland Road.
Alongside the Englishman’s imminent arrival, Leeds United are also working on outgoings. A frustrated forward is in talks over a loan move away from Elland Road, as Farke and his staff continue to reshape the squad to better cope with the challenges of top-flight football.
Leeds United’s business so far suggests a careful balance between solidifying their defensive foundations and maintaining attacking options. The addition of James Justin underlines their pragmatic approach: reinforcing positions of vulnerability while adding players with proven Premier League pedigree. For £10 million, Leeds may well have landed one of the smartest pieces of business this summer.
