Issouf Sissokho open to Leeds United move

Daniel Farke’s Leeds United have received a significant boost in their pursuit of African midfield sensation Issouf Sissokho.

Leeds United have had a mixed start to the season as they look to survive in the top flight after securing promotion last time out. A hard-fought win over West Ham United on the weekend has seen them climb up to 15th on the points table.

While they are out of the drop zone for now, Daniel Farke still feels the need for a few more additions in the winter window to further strengthen their chances of survival. He is reportedly keen on signing a new midfielder and a winger.

Leeds United are interested in Issouf Sissokho’s services. They consider him an interesting option to add more quality and depth to their midfield. According to a report from Football Insider, the Mali international is keen on making the move to Elland Road, which is a massive boost for Farke’s team.

Sissokho hasn’t looked back since joining Maccabi Tel Aviv in the summer of 2024. His sensational rise and impressive performances in the Champions League qualifiers and the Europa League have put him on the radar of Leeds United.

O’Rourke on Leeds’ pursuit of Sissokho

While talking about Leeds’ interest in the Mali midfielder, Pete O’Rourke said: “It’s an interesting link this one, I don’t think there’s a lot that know about Sissokho really.

“Maybe Sissokho is an option that’s come up to Leeds and could be good value for money in that respect.

“He’s got 18 months left on his contract and I’m sure the opportunity for the Mali international to move to Premier League will be something that he would very much be interested in as well.

“He’s a box-to-box midfielder, probably more of a defensive option than Anton Stach and Sean Longstaff, so let’s see if Leeds do follow up their interest in January.

“He’s a young player with huge potential. As I said, Leeds are obviously keeping tabs on him, so let’s see if they follow up and firm up their interest.”

Leeds could table an offer in January

While reports have suggested Leeds could look for an attacking option, they are certainly keen on Sissokho’s signature, who is more of a box-to-box midfielder with exceptional defensive skills. The 23-year-old has a completely different profile to that of Anton Stach and Sean Longstaff.

Leeds are certainly very keen on his signature as he will bolster their squad in the short term and could become one of their mainstays in the long run. With his contract running out in 2027, the Yorkshire-based outfit could secure his services for a bargain fee.

The 23-year-old is believed to be very interested in a potential switch to the Premier League. He is ready to move to Elland Road should the opportunity arise. While Leeds are keen on his signature, it will be interesting to see if they follow it up with an offer in January.
