Bruno Genesio in pole to take Marseille job following Lille exit

Bruno Genesio is the outstanding candidate to take the reins at Olympique de Marseille after his exit from Lille OSC was confirmed on Monday, as per a report from L’Équipe.

Despite leading Lille back into the UEFA Champions League, Genesio will not lead them on their European campaign. The Frenchman’s contract was up at the end of the season. There had been previous reports of tension between him and club president Olivier Létang, and when evoking his future with LOSC, Genesio had struck a negative tone, stating that there were no signs of an extension.

L’Équipe understands that he now heads OM’s shortlist of replacements for Habib Beye, who remains in the post at Marseille. He is something of a lame duck, however. There are three or four other names on that shortlist, including Christophe Galtier.

However, Genesio has the advantage of being out of contract and, therefore, a cheaper option for a club looking to decrease their expenses. It is expected that talks will accelerate in the coming days.
