According to Fichajes, Barcelona are seriously considering parting ways with Marc-Andre ter Stegen in January, and they could explore the possibility of the keeper joining Chelsea. The West London outfit are interested in the veteran keeper, but Barcelona will only look to accept a loan move under certain conditions.
Marc-Andre ter Stegen may not have a long-term future at Barcelona despite being one of the top-name goalkeepers in the world. The German international is currently nursing an injury, but is primed to return around the January period, and he could seek a new challenge to keep his World Cup hopes alive.
Barcelona are open to ter Stegen’s sale in January, but there is the element of attracting proper bids for the unwanted star. The Blaugrana have signed Joan Garcia as their new No.1, and Wojciech Szczesny is his deputy. So, the German may not have a place in the squad moving forward.
The Catalan giants are eager to save on his wages, and this is the reason they want to offload him. Marc-Andre ter Stegen is poised to leave Barcelona in January in search of regular playing time as some Premier League clubs, such as Chelsea, are interested.
The reigning La Liga champions are open to accepting a loan move to the Blues, if there is a mandatory purchase clause inserted in the region of €10 million. Barcelona views those details as ideal in their efforts to sell the keeper, who joined them in a €12 million deal back in 2014.
Chelsea reportedly view ter Stegen as an elite goalkeeper, although at his current age, he may not represent a long-term option. However, that has not stopped the Blues from angling for a move, as they would reportedly like to cover only 70% of the German’s salary if they were to make a move.
Tottenham were also keen, but any move to the North London club seems unlikely at the moment. As for Chelsea, they might be interested in the player, but not in a big way, as they are also chasing Mike Maignan on a free transfer next season. Hence, the Blues might prefer to bring Marc-Andre ter Stegen on a loan without any obligation that forces them into signing the German permanently next summer.
