Bayern Munich going all out to agree Dayot Upamecano renewal

Bayern Munich are willing to do everything in their power to extend Dayot Upamecano’s stay at the club, amidst interest from Liverpool.

Bayern Munich have no intention of losing Dayot Upamecano, whose contract is running out. The French international could leave the German giants as a free agent at the end of the ongoing season.

However, according to Pete O’Rourke via Football Insider, the Bundesliga champions are going all out to secure his future with a new deal. Upamecano is an integral part of their plans, and they do not intend to lose him for nothing.

Upamecano made a name for himself while playing for RB Leipzig. On the back of his sensational rise, Bayern triggered his release clause worth £38 million to add him to their squad in the summer of 2021.

The French centre-back has only gone from strength to strength and has established himself as one of their mainstays. While his contract is running down, he remains one of the first names on their team sheet under Vincent Kompany.

Upamecano’s contract situation at Bayern

His contractual situation has resulted in a lot of interest from across Europe. The 27-year-old is among the best defenders in the world, and with him potentially available for free, some of the biggest clubs are keeping tabs on his situation.

Liverpool are one of the clubs keen on securing his services. After a disappointing start to the 2025/26 season, the Reds want to add more quality to their backline. Arne Slot feels they lack depth and quality in the heart of the defence, and with Ibrahima Konate’s future uncertain, they consider Upamecano just the perfect fit for their project.

Bayern do not want to lose Upamecano

While the Merseyside club can offer him a significant financial package and a competitive project, they will struggle to lure him to the club, with Bayern going all out to secure his future.

While speaking about his future, O’Rourke said: “Well, I’m sure they’ll be hoping that maybe they could sign a player of the calibre of Upamecano on a potential free transfer in the summer.

“Look, as you said, he’s under contract at the Allianz Arena until the summer and discussions over a new deal are ongoing between Upamecano’s representatives and Bayern Munich.

“Bayern are hopeful that they can persuade the France international to stay, but he will have a lot of options and there’s no getting away from that.

“Right now it’s probably an open race for signature as there’ll be so many clubs ready to sign him on a free transfer if a new deal can’t be agreed.

“But Bayern are doing everything they can to try and persuade the Frenchman to stay.”

The German giants are doing everything in their power to agree a new deal with the 27-year-old. They are already in talks with his camp to extend his stay at the Allianz Arena and deter interest from some of the biggest clubs in Europe.

Bayern’s director, Max Eberl, has also confirmed that the club are working hard to secure his long-term future with a new deal, and as things stand, they do not intend to let him leave.
