West Ham United eyeing bargain move for Oscar Mingueza

Nuno Espirito Santo’s West Ham United are keen on signing Celta Vigo defensive mainstay Oscar Mingueza.

West Ham United haven’t had the best of starts to the new season, and in order to get things back on track, Nuno Espirito Santo is already drawing plans for the upcoming winter transfer window.

According to a report from Fichajes, the Hammers have their eyes set on Celta Vigo’s Oscar Mingueza. The London club see this as a great opportunity to sign a world-class defender for a bargain fee.

Mingueza came up the ranks at Barcelona, and after a few seasons with their first team, the 26-year-old ended up joining Celta Vigo in the summer of 2022. The 26-year-old has only gone from strength to strength over the years and has established himself as one of their mainstays.

While Mingueza remains an integral part of Celta’s plans, his contract situation has made his future a major talking point. His current deal expires at the end of the season, and the Barcelona graduate doesn’t appear keen on signing an extension.

The Spanish international could choose to wait until the summer to leave as a free agent. However, it seems he may have the opportunity to join a bigger club in the upcoming transfer window.

West Ham United are pushing to sign Mingueza

West Ham United have emerged as a potential destination for the Spanish defender, who prefers playing as a right-back but is equally effective at the heart of the defence. The Hammers have struggled defensively this season, and Nuno Espírito Santo is keen to add more quality to his backline.

The Portuguese manager believes Mingueza would be a perfect fit for his system. Not only could he help solidify their defence, but he might also be available for a cut-price fee due to his contract situation.

West Ham are pushing to sign him in January and could secure his services for around €8 million. While his contract includes a €20 million release clause, Celta are willing to accept a lower fee to avoid losing him for free next summer.
