Crystal Palace hopeful of beating Everton to Hayden Hackney deal

Crystal Palace and Everton are reportedly keen on signing 23-year-old English midfielder Hayden Hackney from EFL Championship club Middlesbrough this summer.

According to a report by Graeme Bailey on TBR Football, Hayden Hackney is the subject of interest from Everton. The Toffees are keen on reinforcing their first-team squad by signing a midfielder in the summer transfer window. So, the 23-year-old Middlesbrough prospect has emerged as a target for the Merseyside club.

Meanwhile, the Englishman is also a target for Crystal Palace, with the South London outfit keen on signing a dynamic midfielder. The Eagles are increasingly confident about beating Everton to the Middlesbrough midfielder’s signature, with the EFL Championship outfit demanding around £20 million to part ways with him in the summer transfer window.

Hayden Hackney and his progress in the EFL Championship

Hayden Hackney has established himself as one of the best midfielders in the EFL Championship since breaking into the first-team squad at Middlesbrough FC. The Redcar native has been with Boro since 2011 and made his senior bow for the EFL Championship club in January 2021. However, he had to wait until the 2022/23 season to enjoy his breakthrough.

Hackney has turned out over 100 times thus far for Boro while chipping in with ten goals and nine assists. Meanwhile, the English midfielder’s progress has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several well-known Premier League clubs. Everton and Crystal Palace are among the prospective suitors vying for his signature in the summer transfer window.

Premier League move on the horizon?

Crystal Palace’s interest in Hayden Hackney is understandable. The Eagles are scouring the market for a midfielder this summer amid uncertainties surrounding Adam Wharton’s long-term future. In addition, Jefferson Lerma and Will Hughes are on the wrong side of 30. So, the Middlesbrough midfielder has emerged as a viable target for Crystal Palace.

As for Everton, the Toffees have parted ways with Abdoulaye Doucoure as a free agent. In addition, Idrissa Gueye is in the twilight of his career. So, Everton will look to sign a midfielder this summer, with Hackney an option worth considering. Meanwhile, Middlesbrough will demand around £20 million to part ways with the Englishman.

The report has not brought good news for Everton fans, with Crystal Palace optimistic about beating the Merseyside outfit to his signature. It will be interesting to see if the two Premier League clubs are ready to fork out £20 million to sign the 23-year-old English midfielder.
